About

My name is Georgina and I am the proud owner of Planet Dog. For many years I worked as a teacher of English Literature, first in the UK and then at International Schools in the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia. I eventually changed my land-based classroom for the ocean and worked as a scuba diving instructor in both South and Southeast Asia. However, my love of dogs finally took over and I qualified as a dog trainer with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (Distinction) and a behaviourist with Compass Education (Level 5, Distinction). In addition, I am trained in Canine First Aid and also have a Diploma in Canine Nutrition & Health from The International School for Canine Psychology and Behaviour (The ISCP) (Level 5, Distinction). Having worked as a volunteer in various dog shelters (both in the UK and abroad) and also having my own rescue dog, I understand how important it is to be able to listen effectively to what our dogs are saying and to set up the environment in such a way that they are able to thrive. I believe that we owe it to our dogs to train them kindly and to help them to co-exist happily with us whilst also being loved and respected for the individuals that they are.

I have always sought to learn from educational providers with reputable accreditations and, to that end, I have been assessed and accredited as a dog trainer by the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (the IMDT), who are themselves externally accredited by The Open College Network. Members of the IMDT have to pass a rigorous assessment process during which they must demonstrate a sound theoretical and practical knowledge of proven, ethical, and science-based dog training and behaviour. In addition, members must adhere to a strict Code of Ethics, which means that respect for all dogs – as well as their owners – is guaranteed. As well as being a trainer accredited by the IMDT, I have also been assessed and accredited as a behaviourist by Compass Education and have been certified at Level 5 by the NCFE, an Ofqual regulated Awarding Body; the qualification and assessment are also recognised and certified by the Animal Behaviour & Training Council (ABTC), a regulatory body that represents trainers and behaviourists to both the public and to legislative bodies. My Diploma in Canine Nutrition and Health was awarded by The ISCP, a registered education provider with UK Rural Skills and also approved by The Association of INTO Dogs, an organisation for behaviourists and trainers who use only science-based, reward-based methods. I am also a member of the Pet Professional Guild, a governing body which promotes scientifically researched methods of training and behaviour modification and which therefore advocates for force-free dog training and pet care, requiring its members to adhere to specific Guiding Principles.

I am a firm believer in meeting the various needs of our dogs as a way of ensuring that they can live their best lives with us: this involves a clear understanding of canine body language, the provision of physical as well as mental enrichment, setting time aside for bonding activities, and appreciating and respecting that dogs are individual animals with their own needs and desires. Here at Planet Dog you will learn how to be an even better friend to your best friend and we would be honoured to help you on that journey.
